Survey Highlights The Shifting Digital Landscape
The latest Eircom Home Sentiment Survey has been released, and its over-riding conclusion is that the majority of Irish households are embracing the latest digital technologies and moving away from older media.
The survey was conducted across one thousand people, and its primary theme was to explore the tech habits of Irish homes.
The consolidation of all platforms to mobile devices is apparent in the jump in Smartphone ownership – from 39% of responders one year ago to 53% today.
Another interesting finding was that while 25% of adults have a tablet now, a further 17% will acquire one this year. That will raise the number of citizens with a tablet to more than 1.3 million people by year end. Increase of tablet use is to the detriment of Desktop and Laptop usage.
26% of respondents stated that since acquiring a tablet they do more shopping online, while 19% book more flights online.
The scale of change in the media landscape is evident in the fact that half of the population now purchases flights online, while 44% of 16 – 34 year olds buy clothes online, and 1 in 3 watch on-demand television.
When it comes to Apps, the big four favourites in terms of usage are social networking, followed by weather, Video and news. Facebook is way ahead of all other Apps with 45% of respondents claiming they are addicted to this App. While the most that other Apps, such as YouTube or Sky Sports, score on the addiction scale is 8 or 9% of respondents.
Cloud Apps such as Dropbox or iCloud are by now mainstream, with 1 in 3 people using them.
These are just some highlights that we selected, but there is much more : )
