Prosperity Digital Employment and Salary survey, 2013.
Prosperity Digital Recruitment has completed its Digital Employment and Salary survey for 2013.
As the principal drivers of the Irish Digital Sector are the Ecommerce Multinationals, Prosperity researched the hiring trends of the top 15 ecommerce multinationals operating in Ireland, 12 of them US Multinationals, and 3 of them Irish.
Combined, these companies made approximately 3,000 new hires over the last 12 months. The leading Irish Ecommerce companies comprised approximately 250 of these new hires.
The survey finds that almost 50% of the hiring done by Multinationals is for client facing roles; these roles are primarily in account management, sales and other client support duties, and a requirement for the majority of these roles is that the applicants are fluent in English and at least one other European language.
Most Multinationals insist that applicants are educated to degree level, and an interesting finding is that the majority of Irish hired have degrees from UCD.
The survey finds that apart from an increase in salary for more junior and entry level roles, salaries have not moved significantly since 2011.
Prosperity says that the time to fill jobs has seen a notable increase in the last few years, due both to a lack of eligible candidates and a longer and more extensive interviewing process undertaken by Multinationals.
Many jobseekers are motivated by the benefits that Multinationals offer; and Prosperity believes that SME Irish Employers are finding it difficult to compete with the benefits of free food, gym, health insurance, and social activities. There is also the fact that working for an exciting international brand is a compelling proposition for jobseekers, not only for the status, but also for the career advantage of having a leading International brand on a jobseeker’s CV.
