New WebElevate Programme
The drive to make Ireland a digital economy has outpaced our ability to deliver the jobseekers with the requisite skills. It is a sad fact that while hundreds of thousands are consigned to the dole or the planes to Australia, our digital sector is crying out for people – a recent estimate calculated that there are nearly five thousand urgent vacancies in the digital sector – and while the Irish are leaving by the departure gates, digital professionals are being flown in from all over the World in an attempt to make up for this shortfall.
It is something of a race to adjust our curriculum and equip our graduates with the necessary qualifications, but meanwhile efforts are being made to upskill our jobseekers, and one such initiative is the Digital Skills Academy free programme (WebElevate) under the Higher Education Authority’s (HEA) Springboard scheme, in partnership with the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT).
Commencing in October 2012, 200 jobseekers who aspire to work in the digital technology and digital gaming sectors, will secure places on this programme. The programme will build on existing skills and retrain jobseekers in in-demand digital technology skills for employment in the following roles:
Web, Mobile Applications & Game Developers
Web & Digital Games Designers
Project Managers
Online Marketing & International Sales Executives
Digital Games Online Community Managers
Digital Copywriters, Information Designers and eBook Publishers
Web Video Producers
