Cookies on the menu at IIA briefing
The Irish Internet Association (IIA) is holding a special briefing for its members on data protection, this Wednesday, 13 July.

It will specifically look at the Data Protection Commissioner’s new guidance for helping organisations comply with the latest legal requirements.
Last week, laws came into force placing requiring user consent when placing cookies on electronic devices, as well as stricter requirements for directly marketing mobile phones. Companies also have to identify individuals and the Data Protection Commissioner in the case of data breaches.
Joan Mulvihill, CEO, IIA, says the meeting will look at the guidance from the perspective of web development companies and businesses involved in storing electronic data.
“There’s a certain sense of ambiguity around some of the changes. It’s an opportunity for people to come in, get clarity, understand exactly what it is, and understand what future changes they’ll have to make,†she says.
Indeed, there appears to be a big appetite for greater clarity, as the briefing is now sold out.
