    IDEA Awards

    November 6th, 2006

Prosperity is happy to  announce our participation as a sponsor in this year’s Irish Design Effectiveness Awards (Idea), an event designed to demonstrate that the visual impact of a brand has an impact on its bottom line.

According to Nicholas Cloake, the coordinator of Idea, ‘‘Part of the reason we do this is to dispel the kind of myths you
have about design companies; that it’s all about designers in ponytails playing with funny computers. Graphic design firms are run like serious businesses, like any other company. Design is really the output, rather than their sole activity.”

The Judging panel for the IDEA awards is managed by the Graphic Design Business Association (GBDA).

There were 68 projects submitted for this year’s event, which takes place in Jury’s of Ballsbridge on Thursday, November 09.

Previous winners of these awards include Eircom, Greenstar and Java Coffee.

    Christmas Cheer / Bonus Fear

    November 6th, 2006

Late November and into December is a slower time for recruitment. Actually, in Ireland it seems that Christmas is  now a month long festival where the notion of having to attend an interview or start a new job is tantamount to  stressing with the turkeys.

No, this is the wind down - a chill out time of year. Why forfeit the bonus or miss out on the Christmas party and the boss wiggling his bare corpulent torso in some cellar in Leeson Street?

It is amazing how recruitment takes off again in January, people have their bonuses, their new year’s resolutions, and many of them like post party refugees, fleeing their shattered reputations.

    Sky News Ireland

    October 31st, 2006

Sorry to see Sky News Ireland closing down, though I have to admit that like most of you, I never watched the thing.

Sky have announced the closure of the Dublin ‘bureau’ with the loss of over twenty jobs including journalists, broadcasters, researchers and admin staff. They are to retain four journos here in Dublin and one in Belfast, but after investing over €3m and a high profile launch including poaching Grainne Seoige, this must be seen as a step down.

As I said, I never sat down to watch it, and with average viewing figures of only 6000 for the 6:30pm bulletin it seems the majority of you agreed with me. The idea of competing directly with RTE 6:01 News and then later against BBC Ten O’Clock News was always going to make it difficult, and having lost their first superstar presenter in May, it was probably only a matter of time.
