  • Creative students get chance to shine

The winning entrants in Best in Show 2010, a competition for final-year creative students run by the Digital Hub were announced today.
Now in its fourth year, Best in Show invites final-year creative students to submit samples of their work to The Digital Hub for assessment by a team of digital media industry experts.
The five companies involved in this year’s Best in Show are: Design Squared, Kavaleer Productions, Pixelsoup, Red Diamond Media and Red Dog.

This year, winning entries were chosen in five categories: Animation; Film and Video Production; Graphic Design/Visual Communications; Interior Design, and Multimedia. All category winners get a two-week work placement in one of the aforementioned company. In addition, the five winning entries now go forward for an online public vote, and the winner of that will receive a prize of €1,000.
According to Dr Stephen Brennan, Director of Marketing and Strategy with The Digital Hub, Best in Show provides graduates with an invaluable opportunity to gain work experience in the digital media industry.
“We all know how competitive the jobs market is these days, and how grim the prospects are for graduates, so initiatives like Best in Show can play a very important role in giving people a chance to make contacts and demonstrate their skills. It also gives them tangible work experience to reference on their CVs,” he said
He added that there are obvious benefits for the companies involved. “For the companies involved in the competition, it gives them an opportunity to assess current levels of graduate skills, and the chance to link in with people who will potentially dominate digital media innovation in future years. Best in Show is a way of connecting creatives to digital enterprise.”
