So, you either haven’t got the hang of Twitter, or you’re highly addicted to it and your heart sinks when the interviewer asks, do you tweet? It may seem like a better option to say you’re not on Twitter at all, rather than admit you’re on it all day every day, one might think. Well, think again, Sky News actually made the news itself recently with the revelation it has installed a Twitter application, Tweetdeck on all journalists’ computers.
Julian March, executive producer, Sky News Online, told Journalism.co.uk that they were in the process of embedding social media throughout their whole team rather than leaving it to one person.
This change is a result of the appointment of a social media correspondent Ruth Barnett. Its @skynewsbreak account tweets breaking news stories to Twitter users, before the stories are published to the website.
An Irish author has also recognised the importance of social media by giving her fictional characters real Twitter and Facebook accounts. Details of the social media shenanigans of the main characters of Anna McPartlin’s So What If I’m Broken can be found at http://www.sowhatifimbroken.com/.
