So Hilary has finally bowed out. There are surely various reasons for her defeat to Barrack Obama, but the major one seems to have been her failure to effectively embrace the power of the internet.
The way Barrack identified and embraced the power of this medium can only be a confirmation of his presidential eligibility – here was an astuteness that Hilary did not demonstrate. Barrack demonstrated vision, implementation, and management.
A key factor in elevating Obama from being “some guy with a funny name†to being the main Presidential contender was the fact that he used Social Networks for fundraising. Legislation in America decrees that no donor can give in excess of $2,300.00, and this is the level that Hilary generally pitched for, mainly through fund raisers and rallies which required her to be in all places at all times. Barrack, on the other hand, decided to go to the only place that really matters these days – the web. He decided to pitch for $200 from each donor and get donors to merge into networks, and through this system he didn’t break sweat in raising $31 million in April while Hilary exhausted herself in raising just $20 million.
Hats off again to his digital marketing team for gathering all of the email addresses of the thousands of people who attended Obama’s rallies. By the time they got home, still mulling his sonorous words of hope and change, there would be an email in their inboxes inviting them to contribute to this movement for change.
These cutting edge strategies compelled 1.5 million people to donate money to the Obama campaign. This resonates with his “Yes we can†catch phrase, it democratises fund raising, gets the majority involved. Essentially, he has used the web to create a movement.
To quote the commentator, Andrew Sullivan: Hillary Clinton was still AOL while Obama was Facebook. Clinton was the PC while Obama was a Mac.

Everytime we see Barack Obama on screen these days, he and his entourage are chanting “Yes we can”
